The Tump Clump #55 - 29/01/2026

Hello and welcome to 2026 at The Tump Clump.  Episode 55!

Tonight as I sit and write this up, its proper wet and windy outside as Storm Ingrid lashes at us and deals some pretty brutal damage,  So soon after Storm Goretti too! Luckily was pretty calm last weekend when the AppleKore Do You Wassail? event took place at Things Happen Here Dartington - much fun! More on that in another post when I have gathered my thoughts into one place.

So to brighten the mood and raise the spirits, I present an hour of dismal noise/drone/electronics to blast any remaining dust badgers away, and wassail in some good feels with sound.

On tonights show I offer up...

  • rikardfvs - do what ever filth shall be the whole of the Law (ALLISON KOWTOW) - BLACKSMITH NOISE RECORDS
  • Alta Silvae - Time (John 11-35) - BLACKSMITH NOISE RECORDS
  • Hiraeth - cycle (the beginning) (PMS) - s/r
  • Omniwhore - Visos durys atlapos!  Sanity Frontier (La Grande Phantasia Asociale) - Mima Kass
  • luxul - Rat (Materialisations) - s/r
  • Dogstare - I'm Not Malfunctioning... You Are (Waes Hael) - MIGHTY FORCE
  • Substak - Saturated Broadcast (V.A. - (703) My Studio Compilation) - Petroglyph Music
  • Noise Cluster - my studio (V.A. - (703) My Studio Compilation) - Petroglyph Music
  • METGUMBNERBONE - CORPSE CANDLES (THE MORDEN TOWER CONJURATIONS) - s/r
And it all went by ever so quickly, couldnt fit everything in possibly because I waffled on a bit more than I usually do.  Well that just means there is a bit more for next time.

A pleasure to still be able to bring this show to you - please look up and support the artists featured and please send me a hi if you enjoy listening to the show.  Thanks as ever to SoundArt Radio for hosting the show and allowing a platform for all these outsider sounds.

Noise Compilation of (next) month

I contributed a track to this Halloween themed noise compilation, courtesy of Vacuum Noise Records.

https://vacuumnoiserecords.bandcamp.com/album/--22

My offerinf for the release is called "Hundatorra", a track that was born from the Open Access Land sessions but didnt quite feel like it fit with the rest of the album.  It did however feel quite doomy and creepy, which lent itself to the Halloween cause.

Hundatorra is the name of the long abandoned / ruined medieval village up on Dartmoor, near the rocks of Hounds Tor. Hounds Tor itself was made famous by the Sherlock Holmes novel 'Hound of the Baskervilles' by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and is an amazingly atmospheric location any day of the year.  Robert Eggers has been nearby recently filming scenes for his upcoming Werwulf film.  So therefore, all ties in very nicely with the theme.

I love the artwork that accompanies this compilation - gloomy moth-like creatures. The artist is https://francescastrada.com/home.html so check out more of their work.

The compilation of music itself is a great variety of sounds and styles and certainly not just a straight up NOYZ comp.  I was impressed by the width of offerings and look forward to hearing the bonus tracks when I get the download. As usual, there will be some artists ill explore more into.  Did I ever mention I love compilations!?

Hope you enjoy and can support the compilation if you are able.  I will feature a couple of tracks in Tump Clump #53 (December edition).

This time I include a track of my own paying tribute to David Lynch who passed away last week.  Director, Artist, Musician, Dreamer.  Not many days go by when I don't think about some of his work - be it Twin Peaks, Mulholland Drive, Inland Empire, his music, the soundtracks to his work, endlessly entertaining and thought provoking.  I knew he will ill and it was only going to be a matter of time, but this still hit me hard.  I was also a fan of his version of Dune, as I watched it not long after reading through the books in secondary school.

Lynch took his dreams and made them real through his work.  A true visionary who inspired me to do the same, in my own little way.

I also mentioned in the show that I was unable to make the Acid Morris Wassail gig a few weeks back - I saw a few photos on Instagram which made it look like it was a great party.  Hope I can attend another of their events at some point.

Also, Tump Clump (long edition) never happened in January as I had some family issues to deal with.  Hopefully it sees the light of day sometime in the future as I enjoyed being able to incorporate some longer tracks and different themes into the special show.

So, a strange start to 2025.  Hopefully February will be a bit more predictable!

The Tump Clump #39 - 24/10/24

The Tump Clump #39 was broadcast on FM via the beautiful SoundArt Radio from Dartington Hall, Totnes, on 24th October 2024, also digitally via their website at https://www.soundartradio.org.uk/ and then archived on the MixCloud at https://www.mixcloud.com/Soundart_Radio/the-tump-clump-39-241024/

So there were/are multiple ways for you to listen to it.  If needed, perhaps I could record it to a tape and post it to you? I am happy to do that also.  On this show, you can hear the following songs interspersed with a few spoken words from me, Soloman Tump.

I think on this particular occasion, everything played can be found on Bandcamp for you to purchase/stream, apart from the track by me which was an exclusive for this show.

I hope you enjoyed listening and see you next time!

  • Shaun Robert - pîåfffé (Art Brut)
  • Hedra Rowan - YESTERDAYS ASSURANCES MEAN NOTHING TO US NOW (This Beautiful Moment Sours)

Soloman Tump - Torpid State LP

I finished working on my debut full length album, and actually it wasn't too arduous, all things considered.

The album is called "Torpid State" and is a reflection of the long deep sleep of Winter and the promise of the warmth of Spring.  Its kinda almost got some positive stuff in it, but dont worry... its still mostly dismal.

Partly inspired by the dungeon noise of Disgusting Cathedral I've introduced keys into the Soloman Tump sound for the first time... sitting around the usual dirge and simmer of crusty noises and stuff.

The main thing is that it was fun to produce and I tried not to dwell for too long on "tweaking" the tracks after they were recorded.  As usual, a lot of the tracks started as session recordings whilst others were created from separate layers over time.  Plenty of field recordings and foley sounds in here too, such is the way of things.

I plan to release the album just in time for Supernormal Festival 2024, where I hope to have a few copies for sale / trade (CDr) and also stick the digital up for sale then too via my bandcamp page.  There is a preview track on episode 35 of The Tump Clump, where you can hear the track "Nocturne".

Thanks for listening!

2023 achievements unlocked

In many years it felt like a quiet year for my creative world....

Certainly no zines which was a sad thing, but they really do take up a lot of time and energy to put together and I guess I didn't really have the minerals to pull it all together in the end.  Real "work" and family life has kinda been priority to keep a roof over our heads.  The foundations are there, and I want to do my best... so Issue 4 of Intrusive Signals will be crafted in 2024.

But... the things that I did do! And when I right them out, I guess I did achieve a fair bit.....

  • 12 new radio shows. The Tump Clump has been my steady go-to rock for showcasing the sounds that I enjoy listening to but also making as Soloman Tump.  This year I recorded live from some woods in Dartmoor, did a show of just my own sounds, a clutch of original recordings submitted by friends of the show and also some live exclusives.  Always much fun and I hope for more in the new year.

  • Human Geography Recordings released my first ever solo tape that wasn't a DIY!  "Bun Rights", released on a wonderful C15 tape which gave a fun constraint of just over 7 mins per side and again I am very proud of this one.  Now sold out at the label, a pleasure to be asked to work on this series but you can check out the digital here with a bonus track too - https://human-geography-recordings.bandcamp.com/album/bun-rights
  • Back in March I also collaborated once again with Arachnopus on an audio/visual nightmare for Wonder Valley Experimental Festival which you can find immortalised forever on youtube at the link below....

So here's to 2024, another one chalked off.  Plenty more new things in the pipeline that have begun but are not yet ready to see the light of day or even mention... so watch this space.

Thank you!

The Tump Clump Episode 24

A new month and a new episode of The Tump Clump, back to my usual format of digital tracks and me talking a bit between following last months excursion into the world of vinyl.  Episode 24 finds me back in my shed in Bovey Tracey, sharing some dismal delights.

This time; a clutch of collaborations amongst other things.

Sharkiface - Pan & Echo (from the album "Climax Is A Process" On NoPartOfIt Records)
Constant excellence from this Californian based label.  Sharkiface seems to be a producer who has         been around for a good while, and this is a compilation of older and newer materials, much                     welcomed to listen to.

Topiary - Cape of Good Hope (from the album "At A Glacial pace" on Aught/Void)
The first collab - Moss Harvest and Death Knell who have collaborated before under their own                 names, this time going by Topiary creating an amazing album inspired by the Canadian wilderness.         Please support this label directly if you are able - however the digital files are available through             Bandcamp for free download.

Soloman Tump - Cyclopean Trawling [Clumpy Edit] (original featured on the Fallen Lo compilation "This Trembling Place" for World Drone Day)
I struggled making a drone track, and it turned into something more akin to harsh noise wall.                  There are drone elements buried in there however.

Kinlaw & Franco Franco - E Gli Fanno (from the album "WELD" on Drowned By Locals)
This album feels like a pretty pivotal moment in the evolution of Kinlaw.  A really varied album of         the trademark industrial beats, this collab with long time partner Franco Franco being one of the             most dismal.  16 different MCs featuring on the album.  I bought the cassette bundle which comes         with a unique clutch of 15 bizarre playing cards, and I shall copypaste the blurb from Bandcamp             right here:

"Accompanying the album are a collection of cards, the origins, motive & gameplay is still unknown. Story has it they were originally discovered in the flooded basement of Castlemeadesque, Barclays House in Poole, Dorset. Described by one google user as “Mirroring Corfe Castle in Modern Brutalist style.” and also home to peregrine falcons. The offices were abandoned two years ago, and the cards, in 3 sets of five, were recovered by one of the bank employees. Masterley restored for Weld by Winchester Picture Corps. "

VILE PLUMAGE - EELS CONSUMED THE BODY (from the album "EXCAVATION AT HOBBS LANE / THE EARLY DAYS OF COMMUNITY RADIO" on BURSELM CRYPT RECORDINGS)
Stoke on Trent based looping and dictaphone nonsensical ramblings of madness.  Layers upon                 layers, broken sentences forming repetition that you didnt know was coming.  Something magical         is happening here.

Shaun Robert - Our Dreams Our Loops (Institute For Alien Research)
The ever busy Shaun Robert from Bath sent me a clutch of new recordings for consideration to         play in The Tump Clump.  Most of his tracks are 4'33 long (273 seconds = absolute zero) so sit                 perfectly into my hour long radio slot.  This is a prime example of his musique concrete style of             sound collage.

brb Voicemail & Omnibadger - Summer (from the album "Disco")
Formerly Omnibael and now Omnibadger, this mighty collab with brb Voicemail is a grand clash             of guitars, screaming, electronic and a slice of funk.  Great stuff by all involved.  Meant to play             something from this album a few months back but such is life.  Really recommend checking this             out!  The track "summer" starts off sounding like it could be something fairly MOR, but soon                 warps into something quite strange and beautiful.

Straight Panic - Interior Devestation (from the album "Hang On To Yourself" on Noise Against Suicide / Iatrophoba Records)
Have played the Cementimental track from this compilation on a previous Tump Clump.  This is             a serious release from global noiseheads highlighting the plight of mental struggles and suicidal             thoughts considered by many.  Noise can be a cathartic release so lets use it as a force of                         exorcism.

QNDFK - AD02 (from the album "Songs In Malleable Time" on Human Geography Records)
Philadelphia based QNDFK features on this Devon?Somerset based label that I have recently                 discovered, releasing small batches of dark drone folklore tapes to the unwary.  I shall be investigating this outfit more for sure!

Vasectomy Party & Chefkirk - Soldiers of Calmness & Self Control (from the album "Will Power and Personal Magentism" on Forever Escaping Boredom)
Another favourite label of mine, Forever Escaping Boredom release the awesome Dialtone Aggressor noise zine and a host of excellent tape/CDr releases over time.  Chefkirk I "think" was the first electronic noise artist I discovered back in the day when trying to explore this weird new world beyond 4/4.  And Vasectomy Party is the Florida based noise guru Hal Harmon, a happy day to play some of their sounds.

Outro: Soloman Tump - reverse intro drone outro mess around thing, to fill a 60 second gap at the end of the hour.  Rather than have me talk and fill the time.

Thanks again to the ghastly Blackcloudsummoner for producing the original Tump Clump artwork for the show, and each month I bastardize it slightly with colour changes and subtle (or not so subtle) tweaks.

See ya next time!

Trying to figure things out

Not sure where to go next with Soloman Tump sound output.

Need some fresh inspiration.

I recently gained some great inspiration from a collaborative project with Paradox Encounters Group - we have a forthcoming tape release of 8 tracks due soon via ToneBurst.  I love it when collaborative projects come together with great ease - we just passed sounds back and forth until we felt they were ready, and it quickly became apparent that we were happy with them after just a couple of passes.  Bouncing sounds and ideas off someone else's brain is a grand way of mixing things up.

But as a solo artist, there are certain sounds and atmospheres that I want to create but I don't feel able to do it with the equipment I have, or maybe it's just I need to spend more time with what I have trying to figure out how to achieve it.

AI assisted Soloman Tump self portrait

I want more field recordings of interesting sounds (not just the obligatory birdsong or tidal ebb).  I need to ensure I have my recorder with me at all times to capture those rare spontaneous occurrences.

I think, overall, I just need to dedicate more time to the craft and really work on what I want to do.  But as with most things in life, I tend to spread myself a little too thin and do loads of different things without ever becoming an "expert" at anything!

Speaking of which, I'm slowly working on Intrusive Signals Issue 4, and Tump Clump #20 is pretty much almost ready.  #noiselife indeed.

And lets not forget all the IRL stuff I do with work, family and other volunteering stuff.

I never let myself get bored!  But I do want to produce the best Soloman Tump releases that I can.  This is not to say I am not proud of my output so far, but I don't want to start chucking out releases that I am not 100% pleased with.

So there may be a wait until the next release, we shall see where the inspiration comes from next.

Tump.

Autom, Sprau

Greetings!

Some autumnal ramblings as the summer holidays are at an end and my young Tumplets are sent kicking and screaming back to school.

Forthcoming:  An excerpt of a live recording from Supernormal Festival 2022 whilst jamming in the woods on the Sunday morning after not enough sleep, too much ale and lots of hot sunshine.  Some delirious spanked out drones were the order of the day, and thus I named the track Brazier's Drone in homage to the amazing location I found myself in.  The track will feature on the new Shadowlands #2 compilation released digitally by Owlripper.  Thanks for having me.  Have a listen / download it here:-

https://owlripperrecordings.bandcamp.com/album/comp17-shadowlands-2

I had been jamming alongside my regular partner in grime Plague Arish, and whilst he waddled off to get some breakfast and coffee for us I made this recording.  Some of our duet work will be released elsewhere soon.

Here's a sneaky preview of the artwork I created, a sort of dreamy overlay showing Sunset on the festival site on the Friday evening, and some of the gear I used to create the sounds.  Everything was battery powered or just raw weird sounds - sticks, stones, leaves, springs... you know the drill.

We appreciated the small audience who had gathered by the end of our session.  Including the wonderful DJ Bus Replacement Service who had slayed the Red Kite Tent (pictured!) the evening before with weird techno, hardcore and lashings of fun.  Later that day, Surgeon rocked the main Shed stage with an hour of live and raw techno from his mod synth rig.  Such a great weekend.  More ramblings on that soon I suspect.

Tump Clump #16 will be out end of the month - and possibly a 2 hour show.  We shall see.

And yeah i've still got no access to my Instagram page but I still don't care.  So, find me here, or over there.

Kitty Jay

From a forthcoming project

Far from where the believers pray

A mound of stone and soil lay.

Pilgrims pass and pay their respect

To the orphan girl who hanged her neck.

From Manaton strike for Bowerman’s Nose

Then over to where the Webburn flows.

Buried and staked where the roads are crossed

A banished soul forever lost.

Find fresh flowers at Four Cross Lane

Remembrance of the maidens' pain.

Pregnant and shamed she was cast away

The shallow grave of Kitty Jay.

Small Sounds For Small Bugs

It was quite a coincidence that Moon Musiq put a call out for bug theme tracks, right as I was working on a bug themed selection of tracks that may form a future Soloman Tump release.

I am constantly fascinated by the world of the small.... recently I have been lichen spottng with the Devon Biodiversity Records Centre, and also with a local charitable farm via the PlantLife scheme.  I bought one of those little loupe finger magnifying lenses and it is amazing what you can discover.

Here is just a small selection of what I have snapped recently.  Some accurate bug descriptions... some unidentified as yet (I am learning, go easy)

Lichen up on Dartmoor

Snails enjoying the warmth of the tree guard

Bug!

Lethal looking fly!

Phyllopertha Horticola on Dartmoor (in their hundreds....)

Unknown little caterpillar

Drinker Moth caterpillar

Big slug!

Nice looking shield bug?

Camouflaged spider with not so camouflaged egg sac

Leech at Haytor quarry pond

Beautiful Demoiselle on the bunting in our garden

And so to the music.... Small Sounds For Small Bugs is a compilation of 30 tracks by 30 artists, each lasting 30 seconds exactly.  So it plays out as a sort of mixtape totalling exactly 15 minutes.  Plenty of samples, ideas, scuttling, rustling, noises and samples as you can imagine.

My track was fun to work on, it started as a shuffling percussive loop idea I had for a longer track but I ended up just trimming it back to the requisite 30 seconds and adding some of my trademark noise layers to make it less accessible.

Small Sounds For Small Bugs

So tons of inspiration from the small creatures.  I named my track "Narrow Headed Ant" after the very rare type of ant which is found on one nature reserve in all of England... about 5 miles from my home.  It builds a sort of thatched hat for the nest, creating warmth and safety.  There is not much of the specific heathland habitat left for them and they never travel far to create new nests.  So their numbers are critically limited thanks to humans building every bloodywhere.

As ever, Moon Musiq are raising funds for the GEMS-Girls charity in the USA so any donations you care to make towards the compilation will be greatly received.

The Tump Clump Episode 14

 Hello friends.

This is the last Tump Clump show for a while, as SoundArt hand over the reigns to RadioArtZone for their 100 day artist takeover for the summer.  Each chosen artist gets 22 hours to fill with their own sounds which are then broadcast through community radio stations across Europe.

So some personal challenges mean this break in broadcasting has probably come at a good time.  Means I can concentrate on some other things for a few months.  I have a split release in the works with an emerging noise artist called Distraxi which I am very excited about, and I have prepared a remix of a Klaus Von Mork track for the forthcoming Front & Follow compilation (also Megaheadphoneboy has remixed some Soloman Tump material for that too).

Ahh and I've also submitted a short track to a forthcoming Moon Musiq compilation too about bugs. Scuttly!

Tump Clump #14

First broadcast 31st May 2022 on SoundArt Radio 105.2fm / online

1. BLACKCLOUDSUMMONER - A Positive Affirmation (from "There" via FoulPrey)

The tape is sold out but you can still grab the digital at the above link.  9 quality harsh noise / outsider trax expertly mastered for maximum impact by Foul Prey. All profits go to Dorset Mind, the mental health support charity. DEDICATED TO ALL THOSE THAT HAVE BEEN 'THERE', HELPED SOMEONE THROUGH 'THERE', ARE 'THERE' OR NEVER CAME BACK FROM 'THERE'.

2. Rovox 625 - Coralina Rainbox ("Cut Into" via Steep Gloss)

A stunning tape release through the ever reliable Steep Gloss label.  A collaboration of Clive Henry and Culver, providing over an hour of dismal drones that has fast become one of my favourite releases of the year so far.  Again, it looks like the tape has gone, but the digital can be heard.

3. Hendekagon - Doors of Deception ("NO MORE WAR PIGS" via Industrial Coast)

This charitable tape release from Industrial Coast is still available, but the digital will set you back a pretty penny! Raising funds for the vital World Central Kitchen Ukraine Appeal.

4. Pepper Jean - What A Day! ("A Very Friendly Tribute to Throbbing Gristle" via Moon Musiq)

Happy to hear a new compilation from Moon Musiq, this time paying homage to industrial originators Throbbing Gristle. And it is a great compilation given how iconic the subject matter is.  What A Day! is my personal favourite TG track and this cover does a great job.  Proceeds from sales are once again supporting the GEMS charity.

5. Farmer Glitch - UHF-DR1 ("NO MUSIC ON A DEAD PLANET" via Music is Murder)

6. Antisocial Services - Yeah, I'm Not That Bothered ("NO MUSIC ON A DEAD PLANET" via Music Is Murder)

A couple of offerings from Music Is Murder out of Exeter, with a packed 17-track tape compilation which was released after the NO MUSIC ON A DEAD PLANET week (cos if we kill the planet, there will be no sound).  I hope to check out the next event in Exeter coming up in June I believe.

7. Soloman Tump - Black Ash Slug (Unreleased / demo)

Recent recording from me, might still tweak it before it's called done.  I have been experimenting with a new home-built loop pedal purchased from METSAAN of Finland (who produces as Coldsore previously featured on this show).  The pedal is based on a Subspace Transmission, which has a lo-fi looping record function, fuzz, pitch and blend.  Exciting times, noisy, slightly unpredictable and exactly what I needed to give me some new ideas.

8. Pigswill - Lyre Liar ("A Very Friendly Tribute to Throbbing Gristle" via Moon Musiq)

9. Panagiotis Mina - πληγή χωρίς δειλινό ("NO MORE WAR PIGS" via Industrial Coast)

10. Viimeinen - Unsustainable Distance ("There" by FoulPrey)

11. Soloman Tump - Jam Loop Noodle Nothing (Unreleased / demo)

I am currently taking a little break from Instagram (again), so will post a few updates here as things happen.  Why not go outside, enjoy the summer, make friends, do nice things.

See you soon.

The Tump Clump Episode 13 - 1st year anniversary show

From the first broadcast last May which was a horrendously amateur experience listening back to it, I now feel slightly more adept at putting these shows together.  Whether it is any more professional or not I shall leave that up to you to decide.

Things I have done recently? Well I popped into the SoundArt studios a few weekends back where Steve Cammack was recording his Muhmur Radio show.  Some great stuff being played as usual.  Sorry if I distracted you Steve! But always plenty to talk about and some interesting discussions always arise.

For this show we are back to the "usual" format of me talking between songs, following a couple of shows featuring extended / exclusive pieces.  A kind of zine-centric episode because I have recently been catching upon on zine reading and this is all fresh in my brain.  I am pleased to present to you the following delights.

 >>> MIXCLOUD LINK <<<

First broadcast on SoundArt Radio 3rd May 2022.

Iron Fist Of The Sun - Brent (Taken from Night Science VI compilation, Cipher Recordings)

The link takes you to the Tordon Ljud distro where you can still buy the zine with the CD and find plenty of other goodies too!

Plague Mother - Addled, Bargaining (Carrying Your Halo LP, New Forces)

Silent Remission - Wonderful New World (Hang On To Yourself, Noise Against Suicide, Iatrophobia Records)

Still a couple of copies of the tape left by the looks of it (at the time of writing, of course....)

Chlorine & Posset - Trippin' Ova Trevor Monk (Self released, Bandcamp)

Top release of studio improv jams from these two Northern legends.

Feghoots - Nomad Probe (from the Loiter Adjourned tape released through Beartown Records)

BRB>Voicemail - Fatima (The Alms of Guilt, Muza Muza)

Dirty Swords - Cursed Objects Retrieved From the Shadow Club (Dirty Words, Bandcamp)

Claude & Ola - Mown (vol, TQN-aut)

New York based couple responsible for the Deft Esoterica zine, who also make excellent experimental sounds both collaboratively as you can find here, but also in various solo projects.

Knifedoutofexistence - Head Down, Walk By (Disappointment In Realisation, Opal Tapes)

Top release from Dean Knifed, who usually releases on his own OutsiderArt label (he has a new album coming there soon), but this tape was released via Opal and it is a moody focused belter.  One of the best from his catalogue IMO.

O Ratel Ratel - Starr (Tranedal, AVA)

Probably my favourite "new" discovery of recent months, there are 3 releases by O Ratel Ratel available on Bandcamp and I am keen to hear new material as nothing from the past 5 years is on there.

Spiteful Womb - The 99 Year Ache (Binding Psalter, Foul Prey)

The Tump Clump Episode 12 - LIVE (again)!

Last month I put a call out to my network of musical contacts to see if I could get any demos / live / exclusive / archival / unheard gems... and well, the good people delivered anf I filled up Episode 11,

I was really blown away by the amount of submissions I receive, and so I have filled up episode 12 too.  And there may even be more next time - the 1st anniversary of my show - episode 13.  A year with SoundArt radio already, what a wonderful place.

I quite enjoy playing these longer tracks.  As I mention in the show, much less of me talking... which is probably a good thing for you listeners.

//////////

1. A Beautiful Idea - I Drone Therefore I Am
From David "Vital Things Podcast" Barr, an exclusive longform oscillatory drone that gets quite noisy at the end.  Wonderful stuff.  Some of my own tracks have been played on Vital Things in the past, so it is nice to finally repay the favour.

2. Don Macarel's Noisy Party - Song For Radio
Can I say who sent me this? Ummm... maybe.  But I won't, because that is more fun.  Blistering hot vinyl samples through vintage mixer.  Screech!

3. Ivy Nostrum - When We Dead Awaken
I have played a track by London's Ivy Nostrum before, under the Wellness Regime tag alongside Kinver Pond.  This track is perfectly Tump Clump - dismal, rhythmic, noisy and unpredictable....  recorded just for the show.  Thank you!

4. Ekoplekz - Drek 1
Last time I played Drek 4.  Nick Ekoplekz sent me 6 Drek tracks in total, which was very kind of him.  I have been a big fan over the past decade.  The Memowrekz double cassette release (which sadly I only have on digital, but it's a glorious dark industrial dirge).  Anyways... these Dreks are all quite quirky, one take experiments.  Maybe I'll play more in the future. Who knows.

5. COLDSORE - Drossel
Coldsore lives in Finland.  He sent me 2 tracks that were in the demo stages, and I played the other one Drosseln last month.  This track is an extended drone with evolving elements and field recordings throughout.  Brilliance.  Both appear in a remastered / altered state in a new split release alongside There Are No Birds Here, so check that out.

6. Sunfish Starfish - Live At Control Voltage 13
And to finish with, a 13 minute live recording from Sunfish Starfish, recording at the Control Voltage Event which is held at the Focal Point Gallery in Southend on Sea.  This is a collaborative project from Pettaluck (who had the opening track on the recent "Half Century All Heart" compilation from TQ Zine, released for Issue 50, amazing stuff!) and The Spermaceti Organ.  You can find their collaborative album here.

Thank you for the contributions! All excellent.  Still a few more to play, which will spill over into next months show...

April Showers

It's April already!

And so, a quick update.... as it seems a lot of stuff has happened over the past couple of weeks and I failed a bit to keep this place up to date for one reason or another. ....

////////////////////////////

Intrusive Signal's issue 3 is with me and copies are "flying" out (I guess...)//// it's had a healthy support amongst the wonderful regular readers of my zines as well as some new supporters too.  Which is always good to see.

You can also find limited reprint copies of issue 1 at both links below....

>>>> LINKY FOR BANDCAMP <<<<

>>>> LINKY FOR LIMITEDRUN <<<<

And I do have a couple of copies of both available for free in the UK if anybody would like one.  Just send me a message.  And of course, trades are most welcome too.

////////////////////////////

My harsh noise alter ego POSTMAN LOMU created a track for the MONOLITHIC BLOCKS compilation out via the French label Camembert Électrique which was released this week.

Many thanks to them for including my track, and it sits at Track 22 out of an impressive 85 entries in the roster.  I am slowly making my way through it all, an impressive range of interpretations of the harsh / experimental spectrum indeed.  It's free to purchase / download so give it a go, although of course any contributions you make to the label would be greatly welcomed I am sure....

And also... my set for Wonder Valley Experimental, in collaboration with visual artist Arachnopus, is now up on Youtube.  Thanks to Phog Masheen for including my set, and I must say that all of the other sets on the festival are well worthy of your time too.  Some great variety in there, and it's an honour for my dismal racket to be played.  Trigger warning for flashing images....

You can see it >>>>> HERE <<<<

Tump Clump Episode 12 is up next week, with some more live / exclusive / archival / unheard / demo tracks... so I shall post about that soon.

Cheers one and all

Intrusive Signals #3 (UPDATE]

 *Sigh*

The first delivery of zines got "lost" at a warehouse in Birmingham.

The second delivery of zines were hastily rushed out by the printers but unfortunately they printed the  issue 1 by mistake....

So now I await the third delivery of zines... with fingers crossed that it is the right issue, and they arrive at my doorstep soon.

I can only apologise, and I hope it is worth the wait....

Will obviously dispatch as soon as I can.

[So if anyone wants a copy of Issue 1, they are up at a discounted price on my Limited Run page.  If you already ordered Issue 3 and wish to add it, please send me a message.  Also, I have a few spare stamps so can send out to UK peeps who want a freebie.  Just msg...]

The Tump Clump Episode 11 - LIVE!

Hark!  A special episode!

A selection of live recordings, exclusives, home demos and forgotten archive pieces....  I sent an email out to my contacts asking for recordings, and I was blown away by the response.  So much so, that I couldn't fit it all into tonight's show, and there will be more next month.

It dawned on me when I was preparing to put the show together that it would be broadcast on International Woman's Day, so I was very pleased that Hannya White was able to contribute a couple of exclusive tracks for the show.  The Tump Clump aims to be as inclusive as possible, and I'm always keen to hear from new folks who are producing dismal sounds.  LINK ME UP 2 SUMFIN NU?

If you enjoy what you hear tonight, please click the links and show the artists some love by listening to more of their sounds (or even buying something....)

00:00 Disintro

01:40 Hannya White - Rain doesn't fall and caused a flood

06:02 COLDSORE - DROSSELN

16:31 Ekoplekz - drek5

I really appreciate all of the excellent contributions to tonight's show, a real dismal displeasure to be able to play all of this for you.

POSTMAN LOMU - стіна

 стіна is Ukrainian for "wall".

The mysterious (?) Postman Lomu just released three tracks (entitled one, two and three respectively in Ukrainian) as a response to the unfolding invasion of Ukraine by the Russian army under the direct order of Vladimir Putin.

https://solomantump.bandcamp.com/album/-

These tracks channel anger, despair, and a feeling of not knowing how to help the people caught up in the conflict or indeed how to aid with de-escalation.

All recorded live with hardware, very minimal post-editing.  Raw and to the point.

Additional tracks may be added to this release as the scenario unfolds.

After reviewing the tracks, I recommend playing as loud as possible.

Free download is enabled.

I recommend donating to one of the many legitimate humanitarian funds supporting the Ukrainian people and refugees during this time, such as this one:

>>>> crisisrelief.un.org/t/ukraine <<<<

Boycott Russian business and their interests.

Boycott fossil fuels.

Nobody should wish for the Russian civilians to suffer, but if they do, they should turn on their oppressors and pull them down.

COVER ART: "Rippon Tor Rifle Range" - Military rifle range built during World War 2 on Dartmoor, UK. It became inactive in 1977. It remains today as a piece of wartime archaeology, a daunting anthropological feature on an otherwise natural landscape.

Intrusive Signals #3

The third issue of my latest zine project is assembled and at the printers now.

All being well, the release date is pencilled in for the next Bandcamp Friday which is 4th March.

Plus I have some stickers on order too....

It's the biggest zine I have made to date - 52 pages long.  It shall be reproduced on 100% recycled paper.

Featuring:

  • Chlorine - Instruments, sound art and electronics from the North of England.
  • Himukalt - desire, lust, hostility, rage, mania, depression, blood, flesh. Nevada, USA.
  • Brachliegen Tapes - Taking a broad brush approach to experimental sound from Kent, UK.
  • COLDSORE - Finnish dark drones and bespoke instruments.
  • Scum Alice - Dark improvised streaming from Indiana, USA.
  • Shaun Robert - Unused computer glitch art from the Institute For Alien Research in the 1990s.
  • Lucidet - Texan drone/noise and provider of some unique maze art.
  • Tyrannic Horizon  - My story of the Bristolian noise experimenter.
  • Jean Toms - Neurographical art from Devon, UK.
  • Split releases - I waffle on about why split releases are great.
Each issue will come with a bandcamp download code for Burial Practices by Booticker, courtesy of Brachliegen Tapes, and a code for Palimpsest [Live Documents] by Soloman Tump

In addition, the first 30 issues will come with a bandcamp download code for Pollutants VI by COLDSORE.

Final cost TBC but I will keep it as reasonable as I can.

Pre-orders will appear HERE via my limited run page

But also HERE on Bandcamp Friday if you wish to get free music bundled with the zine and also help me from incurring fees!

Wonder Valley Experimental 14

I discovered the festival called Wonder Valley Experimental which has been running for the past 14 years in California (Palms Restaurant, to be exact).

The organiser Phog Masheeen has kept it going through the pandemic in a virtual setting, and this year both the virtual and physical festivals are taking place.  Here's a little clippy video to get you excited!

I real shame I cannot get to the physical place - would love to perform somewhere like that! It looks a great venue.  My damp shed shall have to suffice for now.  Here is the poster for the physical in person (meat space) festival:

Here is the full virtual lineup:

I applied for a slot to the virtual festival and by golly I was accepted.  I have recorded a dull video using my recent "Palimpsest" setup (me stood in the corner of my shed twiddling things) and enlisted the talents of Arachnopus to edit some glory into the footage.

You can check out one of her other videos here for Dollarstore Keyboard and she seems to be some sort of wizzo at doing this.  I supplied some raw footage of Dartmoor and the surrounding area - am exciting to see what she comes up with!

Oh and I pretty much finished Intrusive Signals issue 3, more on that next....
