A new month and a new episode of The Tump Clump, back to my usual format of digital tracks and me talking a bit between following last months excursion into the world of vinyl. Episode 24 finds me back in my shed in Bovey Tracey, sharing some dismal delights.
This time; a clutch of collaborations amongst other things.
Sharkiface - Pan & Echo (from the album "Climax Is A Process" On NoPartOfIt Records)
Constant excellence from this Californian based label. Sharkiface seems to be a producer who has been around for a good while, and this is a compilation of older and newer materials, much welcomed to listen to.
Topiary - Cape of Good Hope (from the album "At A Glacial pace" on Aught/Void)
The first collab - Moss Harvest and Death Knell who have collaborated before under their own names, this time going by Topiary creating an amazing album inspired by the Canadian wilderness. Please support this label directly if you are able - however the digital files are available through Bandcamp for free download.
Soloman Tump - Cyclopean Trawling [Clumpy Edit] (original featured on the Fallen Lo compilation "This Trembling Place" for World Drone Day)
I struggled making a drone track, and it turned into something more akin to harsh noise wall. There are drone elements buried in there however.
Kinlaw & Franco Franco - E Gli Fanno (from the album "WELD" on Drowned By Locals)
This album feels like a pretty pivotal moment in the evolution of Kinlaw. A really varied album of the trademark industrial beats, this collab with long time partner Franco Franco being one of the most dismal. 16 different MCs featuring on the album. I bought the cassette bundle which comes with a unique clutch of 15 bizarre playing cards, and I shall copypaste the blurb from Bandcamp right here:
"Accompanying the album are a collection of cards, the origins, motive & gameplay is still unknown. Story has it they were originally discovered in the flooded basement of Castlemeadesque, Barclays House in Poole, Dorset. Described by one google user as “Mirroring Corfe Castle in Modern Brutalist style.” and also home to peregrine falcons. The offices were abandoned two years ago, and the cards, in 3 sets of five, were recovered by one of the bank employees. Masterley restored for Weld by Winchester Picture Corps. "
VILE PLUMAGE - EELS CONSUMED THE BODY (from the album "EXCAVATION AT HOBBS LANE / THE EARLY DAYS OF COMMUNITY RADIO" on BURSELM CRYPT RECORDINGS)
Stoke on Trent based looping and dictaphone nonsensical ramblings of madness. Layers upon layers, broken sentences forming repetition that you didnt know was coming. Something magical is happening here.
Shaun Robert - Our Dreams Our Loops (Institute For Alien Research)
The ever busy Shaun Robert from Bath sent me a clutch of new recordings for consideration to play in The Tump Clump. Most of his tracks are 4'33 long (273 seconds = absolute zero) so sit perfectly into my hour long radio slot. This is a prime example of his musique concrete style of sound collage.
brb Voicemail & Omnibadger - Summer (from the album "Disco")
Formerly Omnibael and now Omnibadger, this mighty collab with brb Voicemail is a grand clash of guitars, screaming, electronic and a slice of funk. Great stuff by all involved. Meant to play something from this album a few months back but such is life. Really recommend checking this out! The track "summer" starts off sounding like it could be something fairly MOR, but soon warps into something quite strange and beautiful.
Straight Panic - Interior Devestation (from the album "Hang On To Yourself" on Noise Against Suicide / Iatrophoba Records)
Have played the Cementimental track from this compilation on a previous Tump Clump. This is a serious release from global noiseheads highlighting the plight of mental struggles and suicidal thoughts considered by many. Noise can be a cathartic release so lets use it as a force of exorcism.
QNDFK - AD02 (from the album "Songs In Malleable Time" on Human Geography Records)
Philadelphia based QNDFK features on this Devon?Somerset based label that I have recently discovered, releasing small batches of dark drone folklore tapes to the unwary. I shall be investigating this outfit more for sure!
Vasectomy Party & Chefkirk - Soldiers of Calmness & Self Control (from the album "Will Power and Personal Magentism" on Forever Escaping Boredom)
Another favourite label of mine, Forever Escaping Boredom release the awesome Dialtone Aggressor noise zine and a host of excellent tape/CDr releases over time. Chefkirk I "think" was the first electronic noise artist I discovered back in the day when trying to explore this weird new world beyond 4/4. And Vasectomy Party is the Florida based noise guru Hal Harmon, a happy day to play some of their sounds.
Outro: Soloman Tump - reverse intro drone outro mess around thing, to fill a 60 second gap at the end of the hour. Rather than have me talk and fill the time.
