So regular readers of this blog (or even my Instagram page) may know that i've been quietly / slowly trying to work on Issue 4 of the Intrusive Signals zine.
And here's the truth bullet. Its been a struggle thus far, but I think I now know the reasons behind this.
I spread myself too thinly.
I try and do too many things not very well - and don't leave myself enough headspace for the seeming mountain that is assembling a zine. Its half an hour here - 30 minutes there, and short bursts do not really lend themselves to zine building in my mind. I need to be in the zine zone, and to immerse myself in the process.
So in a way, there are similarities in the process for completing Soloman Tump tracks where I set up my gear for a few days, work and record intensively, then put it all away again (far from ideal but thats how it!). When I eventually listen back through all the recordings, I select the bits I find the most interesting, apply my rudimentary grim "mastering" process and call it a day.
So aside from my creative urges there is also all the "real life" stuff that needs to be done *work>pay bills> sustain family>etc* I also have a bunch of volunteer roles I enjoy doing - so I'm currently considering if I should drop one of those to give me a bit more "me" time.
So the crux of this Sunday morning breakfast waffle is that don't expect a new zine next week. I'd love it to be much more advanced than it is, but it's gonna be a while still unfortunately.
There will however be some new music sooner - a limited CD release, DIY by me.
